Abby is such a wonderful dog. I'm sure she's helping whoever she is with right now. Hopefully they will release her or return her soon, as the loss of a pet can be very painful. Hope she comes back soon!

Contacted following vets offices in your vicinity - sent pix/website (unless they already had a picture of Abby - which 2 did - noted below):
1. Sarasota Animal Medical Center - spoke to Shyla - had picture already
2. Bayshore Animal Hospital - spoke to Rose
3. Lockwood Ridge Animal Clinic - spoke to Jenny
4. Bay Road Animal Hospital - spoke to Ashley
5. University Animal Clinic - spoke to Melinda - had picture already
6. Banfield Pet Hospital - Spoke to Alexis - no email!? Need to either bring flier or mail to them.

Has anyone contacted Parkway Animal Hospital? Dr. Corona's clinic? It is right on University, between Lockwood Ridge and Tuttle, by the Publix. Dr. Corona is awesome, and this is the closest vet to where she went missing.
Palm Aire Animal is also close - it is at Lockwood Ridge and Tallevast, right behind the 7-11.
Just don't want to duplicate efforts, but these two clinics are close to where she went missing.

A report (today, 7/16) was of sighting yesterday. She stated that after looking at the pictures on the website, "it looked just like Abby... She was trotting, towards stardust, kinda skinny"

How was it that this dog "became lost?" Did it walk away from its owner's property or was it being walked without a leash?

How the dog got lost matters a great deal to us because if the dog was stolen deliberately that's a story. If the owners were careless, it is not. That's why I'm asking.

Thank you for responding. Hmm, "stolen" versus "careless"? Stumped on that one.

I adore Abby and have raised her since a pup, along with my 3 children singly since 2002. Abby is with me nearly 24/7. She gently changes lives, and while she is like most sweet, loving animals, she does a little bit more. Her specialty is connecting - and she does it well, almost naturally. People phobic of dogs seek her out. Her only vices that I can think of are jumping up sometimes, eating the bread when stressed (like we do I suppose), and ... uh... well, that's it (unless you count licking my daughter in the face while doing yoga). Abby's never been scolded or hit.

Judge as you wish SNN, not one of the thousands of people responding here on FindAbby.com have expressed that question in that way.

To answer you more fully, I had taken my children on vacation. Rather than kennel, we preferred Abby stay in her own home; I had family and friend visit multiple times per day. Typically we let her out, she chases a few squirrels and lizards, does her duty, and comes right back. Other times she hangs in the yard with us (we have 3 tree-lined acres).

July 3rd: my friend (whom adores Abby) had her outside when a firework went off nearby; Abby frantically ran about the yard when seconds later a second firing was all she could take, and ran like any of us might when our lives feel threatened. I was careless inasmuch I forgot to tell my friend, leash only July 3-5. I refuse to think anyone was careless, because I care more than you can likely comprehend about Abby. I made a grave error that may now have cost (not just my children and I), but hundreds of people to lose a beautiful being in their lives.

Is she stolen? Maybe. Abby waits at an open door to go out, and closes the door upon direction when she comes in. She'll wait in the foyer excitedly when we come home, then run to wait on a couch or chair, rather than pummel us with paws at the door. Unless traumatized from that weekend, and she'd likely go to anyone that calls her. The odds of her being taken are high. The odd of me being "careless" as you say, are unfortunately certain.

Since her disappearance, we've been grieving, trying to live normal lives, and search for her. I've dropped all non-essential responsibilities and my yard and home look... well, I wouldn't want you to see it - leave it at that. Thanks for reading.

So many people suffer such a loss, and we feel for them. Abby's loss affects us personally, and the lives of those she helps, in and out of my practice. She's truly my partner and best friend!

Mike,

Not to worry about the posters; you are a wonderful person with a great spirit and love for your family which includes sweet Abby! I'm still waiting for Max Winitz of Suncoast News who contacted me late last night to get your story going. I also forwarded that you will remove the posters once Abby is found. I don't think that is the highlight of the story but I guess you can put that in. Your love for Abby and the need for your patients to follow up with their sessions will somewhat have a "blip on the radar" so to speak without Abby but I have faith that she will be back to work in no time! We just have to get Max of ABC Suncoast News on board. He seems like another great person and I am waiting to hear from him. Oh Yes, he again responded to my late night email last night yet "again" and said that he posted it to his Facebook. I did not find it. Look for it Mike or maybe he meant Suncoast News Facebook??? I want to post it to my Facebook but I don't seem to know how to do that??? Let me know, Thank you Mike:)

Mike is actually Abby's owner. I have made it a mission to find Abby. I hope Mike sees that his posters are awesome! I told him that but he thought that they were too attractive as if to sell something and that they were missing the point to find Abby. I disagree. They certainly caught my eye. I saw the little dog in the lower left corner and I knew it was for a lost dog. Then I felt sorry for the girl, Mike's daughter sitting beside Abby. As soon as I got home, I had to get to my computer and see what www.findabby.com was all about and how I could help!

I went through the neighborhood Country Oaks in the area right to the pool. There are so many houses! Again I was overwhelmed. Can we narrow it down to where the woman lived? I did see a grey mini van with 2 small kids around it. I'm off of work tomorrow and I could look some more...any good advice on how to go about my search?

1) Country Oaks: Awaiting the dog spotter to revisit the area tonight in search of the van. She went last night and did not see it.

2) Desoto/Middle Ave 7/21: likely NOT Abby. I met a resident whom stated his dog had been let out about 11 PM last night just after getting home from work - same time as the sighting & within 50 feet.

Country Oaks update (sighting was about July 8th, reported 7/19: still no visual on the van. Clarifying, she confirmed the dog was soft, but unsure if colors are same (it was dark); noting to demeanor, "the dog came right to her and sat next to her outside of her car." The lady in the van, had "short dark hair..." and was "older (in her 40's) maybe Italian or Hispanic."

B) confirm dog looks like Abby
C) when did you last see her?

Mike,

The dog was in her van and yes it did look like Abby. She was in her van as well so I didn't really see what she was wearing. She had short dark hair. I have only seen her the once and it was around the 7/8 date, (unsure) exactly. She was probably in her late 40's and was a little heavy. She seemed very nice and was driving slowly through the area. If she has Abby, I feel certain you will hear from her.

Firstly, each and every one of you that have visited FindAbby.com.
Next, the animal advocate groups for lost, missing, and abandoned animals- these groups are amazing and fully devoted to the care and rescue of animals.
Along the way, several businesses have been very supportive of our search for Abby. Notibly, Sarasota County for allowing us to post anywhere without interfering with traffic regualtions, Max from ABC 7 news, 7 Eleven on Tuttle & 12th street, the UTC mall, and there's more but we are in a torrential down pour right now while navigating several accidents. Brittney (the finder)
Friday July 4th
Around 7:30-8:00am, during her morning runs, Brittney spotted Abby in a large park in Atlanta, Georgia. She had no collar and looked scared and lost. Abby was skittish at first but let Brittney come up to her. Brittney had work in an hour so she took Abby into her car and left her at her apartment with her fellow roommate who then bathed, fed, and played with Abby- even buying her a toy. After work, around 5-6pm, Brittney and her roommate took Abby to the Foulton Animal Services where she was scanned for a microchip.

"This makes me feel so great..
I mean like she just look so scared like you could tell that she was so distraught... Totally didn't know where she was but you could tell she had been with somebody. I mean she wasn't starving or anything, but I was like 'she's too pretty of a dog to be roaming around.'" -Brittney

The Life Line Animal Project with Foulton county Animal Services were diligent, compassionate, and efficient with getting Abby back to us. Importantly, a microchip said months of searching for Abby.

So happy Abby is home and safe and thank you to Britney for taking the time to investigate this little dog alone in the park. This is the reason people simply MUST microchip their dogs (and cats). It is a simple and inexpensive procedure. It seems to me that Abby was most likely picked up by someone traveling North on I75 towards Atlanta. Maybe they were planning to keep Abby when they saw all the social media and got scared that they would get in trouble for keeping her so long without taking her to a vet or shelter to get scanned. Maybe they figured a park would be a better place to dump her so she would not be back out on a highway and they hoped someone (like Britney) would find her. Or maybe Abby simply escaped from them and was trying to find her way back home. Like someone else said - if only Abby could talk. I have adopted two stray dogs in my past and I wonder all the time about their stories. How they became strays. How far they traveled. The difference is neither of them were microchipped. There could still be someone out the searching for Darcy (the one I just adopted last September). Anyhow, the good news is she is home safe and sound! Hold that little doggie tight and shower her with kisses!

I am going in a remote area in upstate NY. No internet! Just got the wonderful story! Unbelievable story! I am not able to get pics or videos. I have to find a hotspot. How wonderful. We love you Abby!

Each of you visiting here helped to find Abby. Thank you! The story behind her ending up in Atlanta will likely remain a mystery. Regardless, a microchip, a strong community network full of compassion and dedication, plus a mindful "finder" has led to Abby's speedy return. My sleep depravation is going to catch up with me like a jet lag this week - so, my replies may be delayed for several days. Stay tuned for Abby's Welcome Home celebration!

So happy that Abby is home. We live in the subdivision right near you, and travel 59th St. every day. Was happy to see the sign in front of your house gone knowing that she was back home where she belongs.

We saw you all on University Parkway yesterday removing the signs which was quite impressive considering you just drove 1,000 miles.

Welcome home Abby!!

Can I simply say what a comfort to discover someone that genuinely knows what they're discussing on the net. You certainly know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. A lot more people need to look at this and understand this side of your story. It's surprising you are not more popular given that you certainly have the gift.
